A Small Double Buggy That's Easy to Push One-Handed and Carry Up and Down Stairs
If you're looking for a lightweight double stroller that's easy to push one-handed and climb and descend stairs this is the model for you.
It has a pair fixed seats, and up to 30 different seating configurations are possible (including an angular one!). Both seats feature UPF 50+ canopy as well as peekaboo windows.

Size
The Joovy Kooper X2 is a side-by-side double stroller that can hold two children with a weight of up to 50 pounds each. Its seats are larger sized than those of other strollers with lightweight designs, and the canopies have large SPF 50 sunshades that have windows that peek out. Other notable features include a self-standing basket that has a capacity of 25 pounds, cup holders for one parent, and bars that swing away to help children to get into and out of their seats. This is a great choice for urban and suburban families. It is also newborn-ready with the double set which includes an infant wedgie that can be used to lie flat in a position.
Weight
The weight of a double buggy is one of the key factors that will determine its ease to push. In general, a buggy that is light will be more easy to lift and carry however, it may not have the suspension to handle bumps and uneven terrain.
Make sure to read the specifications of each model carefully before you purchase. Some double buggies have the capacity to hold a maximum weight of a person and others have a frame limit. Certain double buggies can be folded with seats removed, making them smaller and lighter. This is helpful if you are limited on storage space.
The tri-fold doubles are typically the lightest models as only one hand is required to lift the bottom and back sections. They are also narrower than buggies with side-by-side sides and can fit through most doors. The iCandy Geo 3 tri-fold double is one of most lightweight on the market. It can comfortably accommodate twins, or a toddler and baby.
Tandem buggies start out as one pushchair, but they come with adapters to accommodate a carrycot, a second seat or car seat, making them a great option for growing families. Some, such as the iCandy Orange offer over 30 different seating options, so they can expand with your family as high as a 3rd child. They tend to weigh more than tri-fold doubles, however they're usually easier to move between kerbs due to the weight being evenly distributed.
Folding
The best small double buggies fold up easily in just a few seconds. Our Lab experts love this feature because it lets them squeeze the buggies in the back of their car and save storage space when they are not in use. For example the Joovy Kooper X2 has straps on each seat that can be pulled up, and the entire thing folds down. it's a trifold, which even our oldest testers could do with one hand.
The light Delta Children LX side by side is another great choice for a double buggie. Its lightweight weight is an advantage, but it also has some great features: nice-sized pop-out canopies with SPF 50 and peekaboo windows; swing-away bars to help youngsters get in and out of the seats; and reclined seats and leg rests for younger children.
Manoeuvrability
When choosing a small double stroller, you need to take into account its maneuverability. This is a good indicator of how easy it is for both children to ride in the buggy. Some pushchairs, such as the iCandy Orange with its 'cinema seating' (where the back seat is elevated) are more efficient at this than other models.
This is the reason why narrow tandem buggies and side-by-side designs can be useful. However, they can be slightly longer overall, and therefore could be tricky to navigate through doorways.
The UPPAbaby Vista 2 is an excellent example of this, as it's a relatively narrow pushchair that still allows for two seats to be added and - importantly - an 'piggyback'-style board that can carry a third child.
Other three-wheeled models like the phil&teds dot are extremely agile, particularly thanks to its clever 'dot kit' that turns it into an inline buggy. This has a couple of different seating options for children of varying ages and even allows the front seat to be rotated to face parents for ultimate face-to-face time. It also comes with a storage basket that is easy to fold. It is an excellent choice for families that are growing!
Comfort
With narrow tandem strollers, or versatile side-by-side buggies, parents can keep an eye on both kids while at the park, at the grocery store or wherever else. These lightweight doubles can accommodate two children as much as 50 pounds each and come with generous pop-out canopy that extends enough to provide real shade with peekaboo windows and padded leg rests for children to kick back and relax. They also come with convenient cup holders that can be reversible and placed on the seatback. They also have an individual cup holder for parents, plus a large underseat basket.
Add the phil&teds Double Kit to your dot buggy if you are starting out with an expanding family. It can transform into a double-inline stroller, which is great for both newborns and toddlers. The innovative 3-wheel design offers superior manoeuvrability and easy kerb pop. The sling seat is a fab baby-friendly option for the ultimate face to face bonding time. You can easily swap the sling seat for an infant car adapter when your children grow older. You're ready for your next adventure, with a luxury travel bag and rain cover!
